Top 5 Concerns When Hiring a Mobile App Developer And How to Solve Them

Problem 1: The cost is too high

Solution: that is very true.

If you read my article How Much Does a Custom App Really Cost? you’ll see that custom made mobile apps range from $15k-$300k, and see my prices are from $2.5k-$3.5k.

I know my price is a huge discount but that is still a lot of money.

When working with a developer, ask about a payment plan, most will work with you.

For example, I charge by the milestone of the project in hand, not upfront. I will work with you.

Problem 2: What if the app breaks?

Solution: Unfortunately, anything that is man made will break. Our cars, computers, refrigerators will eventually need maintenance and replacement.

Here’s how I handle it:

If the app breaks entirely, think of a backend update or a platform change outside of your control, I’ll fix that at no charge.

The app should not be completely breaking and that falls on me as your developer.

However for ongoing maintenance, bug checks and add on features or small changes, I do provide a $100 monthly subscription.

Think of it as getting your car serviced: you get your car inspected to make sure it runs smoothly. The same idea with your app.

This is how I’d handle that problem. Remember to talk to your developer. Most developers will work with you and provide solutions in case your app breaks.

Problem 3: I don’t trust the developer with my idea

Solution: In a world of scammers, I understand.

Hey, I don’t trust most people either, and don’t expect strangers on the internet to have immediate trust in me.

When working with a developer, most will have a contract of some sort for protection.

I have no problem signing a Non-Disclosure Agreement for protection on both sides.

I also thoroughly go over the legal documents with my clients and encourage them to ask questions.

I want them to be in the know.

Problem 4: What if I want to back out of the project?

Solution: Life happens or maybe the project isn’t going as well as you’d like.

First before backing out, talk to your developer and see if they can get the problem resolved.

Remember they’re there for you!

If no common solution is formed then see if they have an exit clause.

For my company, a client can back out at any time.

The milestone payment is required but further payment is done and no coding will proceed.

If they need a break that’s also an option.

Problem 5: I don’t know if my developer is experienced enough

Solution: That’s why you always research them!

Similar to picking out a car, you have to make sure the developer is right for you.

Always check out their website for their background and the apps they’ve created.

For example on my website and my other social medias, you’ll see I have a B.S and M.S in applied mathematics, 3 coding certifications, over 10 years in the tech industry, and just started my business this past February.

Even then, I understand I may not be a fit for you and that’s fine. I’m not for everybody, but someone is there for you.
